Confirm the program before explaining the fault

Record the label on the device from a safe, accessible position, the utility named on it, your enrollment information, and the exact thermostat message. Note whether the thermostat screen goes blank, shows a low-power code, changes its temperature target, or remains normal while equipment pauses.

For a Colorado example, Xcel's current Saver's Switch signup describes central-AC participation. That page does not establish how a particular switch is wired or prove that loss of thermostat power is intended. Xcel Saver's Switch signup.

Xcel's November 7, 2025, Heat Savers notice described planned heating control through compatible smart-thermostat adjustments, with enrollment planned for January 2026. That dated plan differs from a physical AC switch; it does not confirm your enrollment or today's event. Verify both with the utility. Xcel Heat Savers notice.

Those are examples only. Your house may have a different utility, a legacy device, or no active enrollment.

Ask the right questions on both sides

Ask the utility whether an event was active at the recorded time, what the exact device is intended to interrupt or adjust, and who services it. Ask whether the device remains enrolled after an ownership change. Do not assume another state's program terms apply in Colorado.

Ask the HVAC technician to trace the thermostat's approved power supply and determine where power is being lost. Share the device information before they alter wiring. If the problem began after thermostat installation, include that installer too.

A power warning points to a circuit check. Honeywell Home's product guidance describes acceptable thermostat power and the need for professional attention when voltage falls outside its required range. That does not identify the utility switch as the cause. Honeywell Home thermostat power checks.

Keep the result clear

After correction, ask which finding explained the failure, which party performed the work, and how thermostat power and equipment response were verified. Keep utility enrollment decisions separate from repairing a fault.

Your next step is to give the utility the device label and event time, then request a qualified power diagnosis if the symptom is not confirmed as intended program operation.
