Put the equipment on equal footing

Ask for full furnace, outdoor AC, indoor coil, and thermostat model numbers. Request the sizing basis and confirmation that the proposed combination is approved to work together.

Compare required electrical work, gas or venting work, permits, removal of old equipment, startup checks, workmanship coverage, and manufacturer coverage. Ask what remains from the old installation and what could become an additional charge.

A furnace and AC can be offered together, but ask why both should be replaced now. The condition of each piece matters. A bundle discount should not replace that explanation.

Sort accessories by purpose

Have the provider label each accessory as required for the proposed equipment, recommended for an identified problem, or optional.

A thermostat may be necessary to access a system's intended controls. A filtration, humidity, or other add-on should have a specific purpose that fits the household. Ask what problem it addresses, what care it needs, its ongoing cost, and what changes if you decline it.

If an accessory is justified only by a general promise of comfort or savings, request the evidence for your situation. You should be able to see how it helps before paying for it.

Read the financing agreement

Request the amount financed, annual percentage rate, fees, term, total payments, promotional deadline, and consequences of late payment. Compare those with the cash price and any discount you lose by financing.

If the offer is a deferred-interest credit-card plan, “no interest if paid in full” can mean interest dating back to the purchase if the balance is not fully paid by the deadline. Minimum payments may not pay it off in time. That warning applies to that type of agreement, not every zero-interest offer. CFPB deferred-interest guidance.

Ask the lender to explain any unclear terms before signing. Verify utility or rebate eligibility from the actual account and current program rather than assuming all Longmont addresses qualify.

Your next step is a comparison sheet with the same equipment and installation fields, optional items separated, and the financing total beside the cash total. Choose from that record rather than the monthly payment alone.
